You can register to vote if you...
- are a U.S. citizen (includes people born in Puerto Rico, Guam and the US Virgin Islands);
- will be 18 years old by December 31 of the year in which you register (note: you must be 18 years old by the date of the general, primary or other election in which you want to vote);
- have lived at your present address at least 30 days before an election;
- are not in jail or on parole for a felony conviction and;
- are not judged mentally incompetent by a court and;
- if you do not claim the right to vote anywhere else.
Are There Other Ways I Can Register?
- You can register in person at your county board of elections
- You can call 1-800-FOR-VOTE hotline to request a voter application.
- You can download a PDF version of the New York State Voter Registration Form in other languages (print the form, complete and sign it, and mail it to your board of elections)
