Hundreds of Activists March With Planned Parenthood Action Fund Affiliates and Rally in Support of Hillary Clinton at Hofstra Presidential Debate
NEW YORK — Today Planned Parenthood of New York City Action Fund (PPNYCAF) joined Planned Parenthood of Nassau County Action Fund (PPNCAF) and Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic Action Fund (PPHPAF) at the 2016 Presidential Debate at Hofstra University to march and rally in support of Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
40 PPNYCAF activists and supporters traveled on a bus to join a total of nearly 200 New York State Planned Parenthood activists to march from the Planned Parenthood of Nassau County Action Fund office to the public space outside the Presidential Debate to rally in support of Hillary Clinton, a long-time champion for reproductive rights.
Statement from Joan Malin, President and CEO, Planned Parenthoo of New York City Action Fund:
"Reproductive health care is under attack across the country, and especially in this year's presidential election. Republican candidate Donald Trump would put in place policies that are dangerous for women and their families. He wants to defund Planned Parenthood, even saying he would shut down the federal government to do so. In stark contrast, Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton is a fierce and proven champion for women and for families. As Senator, she faced down all of Congress to make sure women had access to emergency contraception over the counter. We are thrilled about this opportunity to elect the first woman president who has the most expansive record of fighting for reproductive health care than any candidate in history."
Statement from Andrea Dora, Planned Parenthood of New York City patient who spoke at the rally:
"I've been a patient at Planned Parenthood of New York City for six years. They were always there for me when I didn't have insurance. I made an appointment, told them my situation, and felt immediately supported. Under a Donald Trump presidency, I may not have been able to access this critical health care. Trump has made it abundantly clear that he would defund Planned Parenthood. We can't let that happen. We need to make sure that reproductive health care is protected. We need to elect Hillary Clinton."
